How to Improve Website Ranking in 5 easy steps

How to Improve Website Ranking in 5 easy steps

Click Through Rate (CTR) is a fundamental concept of SEO marketing. It is calculated as the number of people who clicked on your link to the number of people who saw your content.

CTR = Clicks/Impressions

Back in 2019 Backlinko conducted a study, where they analyzed over 5 million Google search results and found that the top website on search results had an average CTR of 31.7%. The top website on Google’s search result was 10 times more likely to get clicked than any other link.

In 2020, Ignite visibility conducted the same study. Here are their findings:

Now with that short intro out of the way, let’s move on to how how to improve Website Ranking, thereby increasing your CTR.

Whoever said that patience is a virtue, must have been an SEO Marketer because improving a website’s rank on search results is an extremely time consuming process with little to no chance of immediate Return Of Investment (ROI).You have to constantly work on improving your website’s on-page and off-page SEO score to eventually see your ROI. But once it starts, it never stops (assuming that you keep doing your due diligence).

Though increasing your website’s rank is a time consuming process, it’s not a difficult one. Infact, it can all be boiled down to 5 easy steps. Follow them and you’ll start to see your ROI in no time (metaphorically speaking).

Step 1: Content is King

When it comes to ranking your website, the content you put in it is the driving force to get it to rank. The goal is to create authoritative content that is informational and provides value to your target audience. If your content provides value to your target audience, your site visitations increase your CTR and therefore your website will rank higher on search results.

Keywords and Key Phrases are the main players when you’re creating content. When users search on Google (or any other search engines), keywords and key phrases act as identifiers for your content to get displayed in the search results of the relevant query. For example, if you search for “What is SEO?” Google shows you a list of websites that have the relevant key phrase in it.

When selecting keywords or phrases, think about what the users would write on the Search Bar when looking for your content. Best practice is to incorporate the keywords/phrases into the Site URL, Page Title, Headings and Subheadings. Other than that, try to incorporate them in your content. But be mindful that you don’t use them too much and compromise the readability. Also make sure to use them in your Image alt tags.

Step 2: Regularly Update Content

As we’ve mentioned above, content plays a key role in increasing your website’s rank. So it’s important to keep your content fresh by regularly updating them in order to maintain relevance.

Blogs are the best way of publishing fresh content on a regular basis. They can be stuffed with relevant keywords and are great for gaining traction to your website, drawing in your target audience and links from other authoritative websites.

Step 3: Write a good Metadata

What is Metadata?

A metadata or meta description is an HTML element that provides a brief summary of a web page. A page’s meta description tag is displayed as part of the search snippet in a search engine results page (SERP) and is meant to give the user an idea of the content that exists within the page and how it relates to their search query. –Moz

So when creating a website, you need to add metadata to every webpage. The metadata should be within 60px. Incorporate your keywords/phrases into it, keep it brief but make sure to describe the purpose of the page.

Step 4: Build high authority backlinks

Backlinks and content goes hand in hand. The better the site content is, the better the quality of the backlinks. If a website has quality backlinks from relevant websites in your niche, it shows Google that your website content is relevant. Google then moves you up the search results, i.e., increases your website rank.

To generate quality backlinks, there are loads of tried and tested methods, like:

  1. Broken link method
  2. Generating Quality Infographics
  3. Guest posting
  4. Promoting website content
  5. HARO (Help A Reporter Out)

Step 5: Use relevant alt tags on visual content

It is always good practice to add relevant alt tags to images and videos on your website. Use your focus keywords and key phrases to describe them. By doing this, you’ll be increasing your website’s visibility not only through your written content, but your visual content as well.
